Bhopal, August 22: The Madhya Pradesh government is taking a firm stance following the tragic deaths of Baiga tribal children in Balaghat district. Two officials have been removed from their positions, and Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla has ordered an investigation into the matter.
Deputy Chief Minister Shukla visited the affected Baiga families in the village of Machhurda within the Birsa development block. He gathered detailed information about their social conditions, health issues, and the status of the children, assuring them of the government’s support.
During his visit, Shukla urged the village head of Machhurda, Zilso Ramsingh Tilgam, and other Baiga families to cooperate in vaccinating their children. He expressed the state government’s deep sympathy for the families who have lost children. Shukla noted that this area has recently been freed from Naxalism, allowing government schemes and services to reach this remote region effectively. The government’s goal is to ensure that the local population benefits from essential services like health, education, and nutrition.
While discussing with the Baiga families, Shukla emphasized the importance of nutrition and sanitation. He advised them to adopt cleanliness habits in their daily lives and consume nutritious food to prevent various diseases. He encouraged families to maintain cleanliness around their homes and pay special attention to the health and nutrition of their children.
The Deputy Chief Minister also instructed officials to arrange for a nurse at the local health center in Machhurda, ensuring that villagers have easy access to health services.
In a press briefing, Shukla announced the replacement of the district vaccination officer and the removal of the district malaria officer. He stated that an investigation will be conducted into the deaths of the Baiga children. If any negligence is found during the inquiry, the government will not hesitate to take action against the responsible officials.
Shukla mentioned that a special campaign will be launched to raise awareness among Baiga families regarding health and other critical issues. Currently, malaria prevention measures are being implemented in 38 villages in the Birsa area, including spraying medicines and conducting door-to-door surveys to assess and treat sick individuals. A special vaccination campaign is also underway in the affected villages.
He further stated that he will hold a meeting in Bhopal with officials from the Women and Child Development Department to address the nutritional needs of Baiga children. The government plans to increase manpower in the health department for remote and difficult areas and take necessary steps to enhance the effectiveness of Anganwadi services. Shukla reaffirmed that the state government stands with the affected Baiga families, providing them with all possible assistance.
