Tehran, March 19: The military conflict in Iran has now entered its 20th day. On the 19th day, Israel targeted the South Pars gas field, prompting Iran to retaliate with an attack on a gas plant in Qatar. This escalation has drawn condemnation from several nations. French President Emmanuel Macron has voiced his concerns and urged for restraint. However, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized Macron’s stance as “unfortunate.”
Araghchi stated, “Macron did not utter a word condemning the attacks by Israel and the U.S. on Iran. He failed to denounce Israel even when it bombed fuel depots in Tehran, exposing millions to toxic substances. His recent expression of concern does not even mention the gas facility that prompted our (Iran’s) response. This is truly unfortunate!”
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded to Macron’s post, in which he called for an end to attacks on infrastructure.
In his post, Macron mentioned, “Following the attacks on gas production facilities in Iran and Qatar, I spoke with the Emir of Qatar and President Trump.” He condemned attacks targeting infrastructure, stating, “It is in our shared interest to immediately halt attacks on infrastructure—especially energy and water supply facilities. The security of civilians and their basic needs, along with energy supply, must be safeguarded from military tensions.”
On March 18, Israel had attacked Iran’s South Pars gas field. In retaliation, Iran targeted Qatar’s largest gas plant, Ras Laffan, an action deemed unacceptable by many nations. Twelve Muslim countries openly criticized the attack. A statement was issued following a meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which included nations such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE.
These countries condemned Iran’s attack on Riyadh and stated that it cannot be justified under any circumstances. Additionally, Saudi Arabia issued a stern warning to Iran. Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud claimed that their country is fully capable of responding to Iran. “Iran should not test our patience,” he warned.
