Abu Dhabi, March 19: Iran has launched an attack on the gas facility field shared by Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). UAE officials have strongly criticized this action. They announced on Thursday that operations at the Habshan gas facility have been temporarily halted due to debris falling from intercepted missiles.
The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement condemning Iran’s attack on the Habshan gas facility and the Bab field. The UAE’s air defense successfully intercepted the attack, and there have been no reports of injuries.
The ministry emphasized that these attacks violate international law. The UAE retains the right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty and national security.
Furthermore, the ministry stated that targeting critical infrastructure and oil facilities poses a direct threat to regional security and stability, as well as global energy security.
Earlier on Wednesday, the UAE had warned that attacks on energy facilities linked to Iran’s South Pars gas field threaten both global energy security and regional stability.
In its statement, the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that assaults on energy infrastructure related to the South Pars field represent a dangerous escalation. This gas field extends into Qatari territory to the north.
According to the Xinhua News Agency, the ministry stressed that targeting the energy sector’s infrastructure poses a direct threat to global energy security and the safety and stability of the region and its people.
It also noted that such actions could have serious consequences, endangering civilians, navigation routes, and essential industrial and urban facilities.
The ministry underscored the need to avoid targeting critical infrastructure under any circumstances and reiterated the importance of adhering to international law to maintain security and stability in the region.
