Lucknow, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Purva Dhawan, a climber from Lucknow, has made headlines by hoisting the Indian flag atop Mount Rudragaira, which stands at an impressive height of 5,826 meters. This achievement, celebrated on September 10, enhances the pride of her home state of Uttar Pradesh.
Dhawan reached the summit at 12:30 PM after overcoming challenging icy and rocky paths, low oxygen levels, and difficult weather conditions. Her next ambitious goal is to conquer Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.
In May 2018, she had previously met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, presenting him with a banner promoting the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” initiative. Adityanath encouraged her efforts, which have propelled Dhawan forward in her pursuits. She credits her success on Rudragaira to her family’s support and the inspiration she received from the Chief Minister.
The expedition was also significantly supported by Shailesh Semwal and Bihari Singh Rana, who guided Dhawan during her specialized training in Gangotri. The team embarked on their trek from Gangotri at 9 AM on September 7. After two days of strenuous trekking, they reached the Rudragaira base camp at an altitude of 4,350 meters. The final ascent began at 4 AM on September 10, and after approximately eight and a half hours of climbing, they successfully reached the summit.
The journey was fraught with challenges, including steep ice, rocky sections, and open areas. As they ascended, the team faced diminishing oxygen levels and physical fatigue, yet they persevered.
Dhawan has drawn energy from the encouragement she received from the Chief Minister during their meeting, propelling her towards new goals. She has also linked her expedition to environmental conservation efforts.
Through her “Peaks and Plastic” initiative, she aims to raise awareness about plastic waste in mountainous regions and promote responsible mountaineering practices. Dhawan emphasizes that while conquering Himalayan peaks is a great honor, it is equally important to keep these areas clean and safe.
Following her successful climb of Rudragaira, Dhawan has set her sights on Mount Everest, which towers at 8,848.86 meters. Her mission is to plant the Indian flag on Everest while advocating for women’s empowerment, inspiring youth, and promoting a clean Himalayas.
