New Delhi, July 31 — Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh has been appointed as the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff (VCOAS). He will take over the post on August 1, following the retirement of the current Vice Chief, Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani, who concluded his 39-year-long service in the Indian Army on Thursday.

Veteran of UN Peacekeeping Missions and Major Operations
Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy and was commissioned into the 4 Para (Special Forces) in December 1987. He brings with him extensive combat and strategic experience, having participated in key operations such as Operation Pawan, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Rakshak, and Operation Orchid. He also has overseas combat experience through United Nations peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and Sri Lanka.
Commanded the Rising Star Corps
In April 2022, Lt Gen Singh took command as the General Officer Commanding of the Rising Star Corps, which was established in 2005 and is based in Yol Cantonment in the Kangra Valley, southeast of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

Over his career spanning more than three decades, Lt Gen Singh has held several key leadership positions. His service has been recognised with the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Sena Medal, both awarded to him twice. Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani retired today after an illustrious military career spanning 39 years. His journey in the Indian Army began at the National Defence Academy, and he was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in December 1985.
A highly accomplished officer, he holds a postgraduate degree in Arts from King’s College, London, and an MPhil in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.
