
New Delhi, April 24: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Friday that the sale of 5-kilogram small LPG cylinders is ongoing nationwide. So far in April, a total of 1.783 million cylinders have been sold, with over 81,000 sold recently.
The ministry confirmed that the domestic LPG supply is completely normal, and there are no reports of gas shortages anywhere.
Additionally, 527,000 PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections have been activated, with infrastructure prepared for an additional 260,000 connections, bringing the total number of connections to 787,000.
Approximately 597,000 new customers have registered for gas connections. Meanwhile, over 42,000 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections through the myPNG.in website.
Online LPG bookings have reached 98%, while delivery authentication via registered mobile number codes has increased to nearly 94%, helping to prevent fraud and theft.
The ministry emphasized that despite current international conditions, priority is being given to the supply of gas for domestic use.
On Wednesday, 8,483 metric tons of commercial LPG (about 446,000 19-kilogram cylinders) were sold, bringing the total sales for April to 140,362 metric tons (approximately 7.387 million cylinders).
The statement further noted that strict action is being taken to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG across the country. So far, more than 150,000 raids have been conducted, leading to the seizure of over 66,000 cylinders, the filing of more than 1,100 FIRs, and the arrest of 255 individuals.
Government oil companies have also intensified their efforts, imposing fines on 298 LPG distributors and suspending the licenses of 70 distributors.
In light of potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, necessary measures are being taken to maintain the supply of petroleum products and LPG in the country.
Citizens are urged not to panic and avoid excessive purchases of petrol, diesel, or LPG, and to steer clear of rumors. For accurate information, reliance on official sources is advised.
LPG consumers are encouraged to book online and avoid visiting distributors in person.
The government has assured that all refineries are operating at full capacity and that there is a sufficient stock of crude oil. Additionally, adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are being maintained, and LPG production at refineries has been increased to meet domestic needs.
