Chamoili, August 15: A landslide occurred on the Birhi-Nijmula motor road in Chamoili district, trapping a 108 emergency ambulance carrying a patient. The incident happened near Kali Chattan on Saturday when a sudden fall of debris and stones from the hillside blocked the road. Fortunately, the driver and ambulance staff quickly recognized the danger and safely evacuated the patient. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The ambulance was transporting a sick woman from the Nijmula valley to the district hospital in Gopeshwar. As the landslide began, the ambulance crew acted swiftly, moving the patient to a safe location away from the vehicle.
Due to the landslide, the ambulance remains stuck in the debris, and the Birhi-Nijmula road is completely obstructed. Traffic has been severely affected, with long queues of vehicles forming on both sides of the road. Local residents are urging authorities to clear the debris promptly to restore traffic flow. The ongoing heavy rainfall has heightened the risk of further landslides in the Kali Chattan area, causing concern among travelers and drivers.
Recently, a tragic incident occurred in Chamoili district involving a construction tunnel, resulting in the deaths of seven people. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site of the Peepalkoti tunnel accident to oversee relief and rescue operations after the disaster.
Chamoili District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar reported that a significant amount of water and debris had entered the tunnel during construction around 6:30 PM on Thursday.
