Lalit Modi Calls for Ban on LSG Owner Sanjeev Goenka Amid IPL Controversy

New Delhi, April 3: Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi is once again in the spotlight. He has made controversial remarks against Sanjeev Goenka, the owner of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and has demanded that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ban the team.

Modi expressed his discontent on X, stating, “I told you that Sanjeev Goenka of LSG is a complete loser and the biggest joker. I am truly embarrassed by his behavior. I created the IPL for both fans and players, not for this to happen every year.”

He further added, “If I were still the chairman and commissioner, I would have banned him immediately and taken away the team’s ownership forever. He is a completely arrogant joker. There is a clause in the franchise agreement regarding this issue. The BCCI must enforce it—integrity must come first. Flattery from those in power is not a way to escape. Both fans and players will remember this.”

The controversy arose after LSG faced a defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 1 at the Ekana Stadium. Following the match, Goenka was seen conversing with Rishabh Pant, which fans and critics have linked to an incident between Goenka and KL Rahul during IPL 2024. Memes related to Goenka have gone viral on social media.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan commented on the video, stating that there was no need for such behavior in the tournament.

However, the specifics of the conversation between Rishabh Pant and Sanjeev Goenka remain unclear.

In response, LSG posted a video clarifying that everything was fine between Goenka and Pant. The caption read, “What you are seeing is not the truth. These are the unfiltered vibes after the match when the cameras are off.”

After the match, Goenka took to X, stating, “It’s a long season, and moments like these are part of making something meaningful. I have complete faith in my captain and team that they will bounce back strongly. Thank you to our fans for your support at Ekana. We will come back stronger. The story of Lucknow this season is not yet written.”
