Chandigarh, August 31: Students from Punjab University have expressed their support for the Supreme Court‘s recent remarks stating that students should not face punishment for asking questions. They have urged the university administration to implement this directive.
Ravi Kumar, a third-year law student, commented, “I wholeheartedly welcome the Supreme Court’s remarks. The Court has ruled that students cannot be intimidated. This right is why we are protesting today. Our voting rights are being denied. At least 50 students were unable to vote because the gates were locked.”
First-year law student Nakul Kaushik added, “It is our right to demand accountability. We must be aware of our rights and stay informed.”
Another student, Gaurish Kalia, stated, “We completely agree with the Supreme Court’s remarks. Historically, the voices of children and students have been suppressed. We want this to stop. While we support the Court’s comments, we have seen no benefits in our college. We have been struggling since morning to assert our rights, yet we have received no assurances.”
He further noted, “Students have always asked questions, but accountability remains unaddressed. The Supreme Court’s decision is commendable, but it must be enforced. Police and college administrations must understand that they are accountable when students demand their rights. However, the administration does not respond to us and keeps us waiting for hours.”
Students claim that their democratic rights are being violated at the university. Denying fundamental rights like voting is unjust. The Supreme Court’s remarks in favor of students are historic and should be implemented in every educational institution. They demand that the university administration adhere to the Supreme Court’s directives and put an end to the trend of intimidating students.
