Mumbai, April 1: Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde has criticized Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for allegedly disrespecting the national anthem, emphasizing that as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, he should honor it.
In a conversation in Mumbai, Hegde stated that “Vande Mataram” is India’s national song, which has inspired the nation for decades. He stressed that everyone should sing this song, and it is Gandhi’s responsibility to show respect for it. He expressed disappointment over Gandhi’s behavior, particularly referencing a video where Gandhi was seen seated while the anthem played. Hegde condemned this conduct, asserting that the Shiv Sena completely disapproves of it.
Hegde further remarked that Gandhi has a tendency to speak against India, whether he is at home or abroad. He recalled how Gandhi criticized Indian policies during the Operation Sindoor.
In light of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Hegde mentioned that India is set to resume oil imports from Iran after a five to six-year hiatus. He noted that previous U.S. sanctions had prohibited India from importing oil from Iran. Hegde praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for successfully negotiating the return of stranded oil tankers from Iran, highlighting that India is now poised to import millions of tons of crude oil under new trade agreements.
He attributed this success to Modi’s foreign policy, which has ensured that India continues to receive oil from both Iran and Russia, with countries around the world eager to collaborate with India.
Discussing the upcoming elections in Bengal, Hegde commended the Election Commission for effectively removing illegal voters from the electoral rolls, stressing the importance of eliminating names of Bangladeshi infiltrators. He encouraged those whose names were removed to file objections with proper documentation.
On the topic of Naxalism, Hegde noted that many Naxalites surrendered and laid down their arms on March 31, indicating progress toward the government’s goal of a Naxal-free India.
