Kolkata, March 8: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Alipore has predicted thunderstorms and rain across Kolkata and the entire state starting Sunday evening. The weather department indicated that despite the thunderstorms, there will not be significant changes in temperature over the next seven days.

According to the forecast, light rain and strong winds are expected in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and North 24 Parganas on Monday and Tuesday. However, no separate warnings have been issued for these districts.

Rain warnings have been issued for South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, and Nadia districts. Thunderstorms and rain are anticipated in these areas over the next few days, with wind speeds expected to reach 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Meanwhile, thunderstorms will continue throughout the week in North Bengal. Light rain and thunderstorms are expected in every district in the north. Separate warnings have been issued for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Jalpaiguri districts from Sunday to Tuesday.

Warnings for Alipurduar and Cooch Behar districts have been issued from Monday to Wednesday. There will be no significant changes in minimum or maximum temperatures in North Bengal over the next seven days. According to the RMC, a cyclonic circulation remains active in Odisha and surrounding areas, extending its axis to Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and northwest Uttar Pradesh. This has created conditions for thunderstorms and rain in the Gangetic plains.

On Sunday morning, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 23.9 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 31.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.6 degrees below normal. The sky will be partially cloudy throughout the day, with light rain possible in the evening. The relative humidity will range from a maximum of 96 percent to a minimum of 55 percent. Maximum temperatures will hover around 32 degrees, while minimum temperatures will be around 24 degrees Celsius.
