Kolkata, August 8: As part of ‘Road Safety Week 2026’, the Kolkata Police organized a bicycle rally on Saturday to promote road safety and raise awareness about traffic rules. The event was flagged off by Kolkata Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Nanda.
The rally commenced at Victoria Memorial and concluded at Lalbazar, passing through Prinsep Ghat. Approximately 150 participants took part, with a focus on promoting safe practices among two-wheeler riders.
Commissioner Nanda stated that the awareness rally covered a distance of about 8 to 10 kilometers, involving police personnel and members of cycling clubs.
He noted that there are currently no specific programs for bike riders. However, the traffic wing has previously conducted various awareness programs and bike rallies to educate riders on proper helmet usage and other safety precautions. Today’s event was a cycling rally organized by the traffic wing.
The Commissioner mentioned that ‘Road Safety Week’ has been ongoing for the past week, featuring various activities aimed at educating school children and different segments of society about traffic rules and safety measures. The bicycle rally was part of this initiative.
Commissioner Ajay Kumar Nanda indicated that the campaign will conclude on Sunday, with a closing event planned. Members of cycling clubs will also convey their messages during this program.
