Kolkata Police have taken a man into custody in connection with a bomb threat email sent to Governor C.V. Ananda Bose. The detained individual has been identified as Subrata Dutta.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether Subrata Dutta himself sent the threatening email. The email, which warned that the Governor’s residence would be blown up, came to the notice of Raj Bhavan officials late on Thursday night. Given the seriousness of the threat, security measures for the Governor were immediately reinforced. Raj Bhavan authorities promptly informed the police about the email.
An investigation was launched to trace the origin of the message and understand the motive behind it. Following this, officers from the Hare Street Police Station detained the elderly man named Subrata on Friday. A senior Kolkata Police official stated, “A case has been registered against Subrata Dutta Roy (68) in connection with the bomb threat to the Governor. The accused has been taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
The bomb threat caused considerable alarm. Sources at Raj Bhavan revealed that Kolkata Police and CRPF teams are working together to ensure the Governor’s safety. Extra precautions have been taken regarding the security arrangements at Raj Bhavan. Late Thursday night, a high-level emergency security meeting was held involving top officials responsible for the Governor’s protection.
Governor Bose is provided with ‘Z-plus’ category security. Nevertheless, the threatening message prompted authorities to further strengthen the protective measures. It is worth noting that such threats are not unprecedented; the Governor has received multiple threats in the past as well.
