Kolkata Experiences Sudden Temperature Drop After Two Days of Rain

Kolkata, March 22: Kolkata has witnessed an unusual drop in maximum temperatures by 11 degrees following two days of rainfall. The weather department announced on Sunday that this trend is expected to continue until next Friday. Heavy rainfall is anticipated across the entire state of West Bengal, from north to south.

Previously, maximum temperatures had consistently remained above 30 degrees Celsius. Rainfall that began on Friday evening persisted into Saturday, causing a sharp decline in temperatures. Residents of Kolkata and southern Bengal are now experiencing a sudden chill.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature in Kolkata and surrounding areas was recorded at 23.2 degrees Celsius, which is 11 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature was noted at 19.2 degrees Celsius, 4.4 degrees below the average.

A meteorological officer stated, “Currently, a western disturbance is extending from northern Haryana to northern Chhattisgarh. A low-pressure area has formed over Uttar Pradesh and eastern Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, another low-pressure area is situated at an altitude of 3.1 to 5.8 kilometers above sea level.”

Given the favorable conditions for rainfall and the abundant moisture coming from the Bay of Bengal, there is a strong likelihood of thunderstorms and rain in various districts of West Bengal within the next 24 hours.

According to weather forecasts, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected in several areas of Jhargram, East Midnapore, West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, and Kolkata districts. Other districts may experience light rain at one or two isolated locations.

On Monday, light rain and thunderstorms are likely in one or two places in East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Purulia, Jhargram, Bankura, and West Midnapore districts. The remaining districts in southern Bengal are expected to remain predominantly dry.
