China Responds to U.S. Investigation into Trade Barriers

Beijing, March 28: The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce addressed reporters on March 27 regarding the United States’ initiation of investigations into two trade barriers.

The spokesperson stated that the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office launched a Section 301 investigation on March 12, citing alleged excess production capacity affecting China and 15 other economic communities. Following this, on March 13, another investigation was initiated concerning ineffective bans on products linked to forced labor, impacting China and 59 other economic communities. China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and vehemently opposes these actions.

To protect the interests of relevant Chinese businesses, the Ministry of Commerce has issued two statements in accordance with China’s Foreign Trade Law and the regulations for investigating foreign trade barriers. These statements address the U.S.’s actions that disrupt global production and supply chains, as well as measures that hinder trade in green products. In the next phase, China will intensify its investigation efforts to fully safeguard its legitimate interests.
