
Valletta, March 28: CB George, India’s Secretary (West), met with Ian Borg, the Deputy Prime Minister of Malta, and Brigadier Clinton J. O’Neil, a senior military officer, on Saturday. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs shared details on the social media platform X. Secretary George and Deputy Prime Minister Borg explored ways to strengthen the partnership between India and Malta, while also discussing the expansion of bilateral engagement. They exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Secretary George held a significant meeting with Brigadier O’Neil, where they discussed measures to enhance defense and security cooperation between India and Malta.
The fourth round of consultations aimed at giving new direction to the growing bilateral relations between India and Malta commenced in Valletta on Friday. Senior officials from both countries highlighted their shared perspectives on regional and global issues during this important meeting, co-chaired by Secretary George and Christopher Cutajar, Permanent Secretary of Malta’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Extensive discussions were held on strengthening cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, technology, health, and education.
The consultations reviewed the comprehensive scope of bilateral relations, focusing on enhancing collaboration in trade and investment, ICT, healthcare, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, education, maritime sectors, and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides also discussed the potential for increased economic engagement in light of the completion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
They exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their commitment to continued cooperation on multilateral platforms.
