Kiren Rijiju Praises Indian Wrestling Teams Stellar Performance at U-23 Asian Championship

New Delhi, May 29: Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, expressed his joy over the remarkable success of the Indian wrestling team, calling it a proud and historic moment for the country’s sports community.

At the ongoing 2026 U-23 Asian Championship in Da Nang, Vietnam, Indian wrestlers showcased exceptional talent, clinching the team championship titles in both men’s freestyle and women’s wrestling categories.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Rijiju wrote, “This is a proud and historic moment for Indian sports! Our wrestlers have displayed unmatched spirit and outstanding performance at the 2026 U-23 Asian Championship held in Da Nang, Vietnam. India has won the team titles in both men’s freestyle and women’s wrestling.”

The minister noted that the men’s freestyle team secured a total of nine medals, including four golds, marking India’s best performance at the U-23 Asian Championship to date. Meanwhile, the women’s wrestling team excelled further, winning ten medals, six of which were gold. The Greco-Roman team also achieved eight medals, representing their best performance in this category so far.

Rijiju congratulated all the victorious athletes, highlighting this achievement as a significant success for the Wrestling Federation of India and the Ministry of Sports. He stated, “Heartfelt congratulations to our champions! You are consistently elevating India’s sports legacy to new heights.”

This success reflects the rising standards of wrestling in India. Over the past few years, the country has consistently performed well in the Olympics, World Championships, and Asian Games. The U-23 Asian Championship serves as a crucial platform for young wrestlers, where future stars are nurtured. The Indian team not only amassed a haul of medals in Da Nang but also demonstrated their collective strength by winning the team title.
