New Delhi, December 1. Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s condition has not improved. According to the latest update, Zia has been shifted to ventilator support. Meanwhile, according to information shared by Bangladeshi media, a five-member foreign medical team arrived at Evercare Hospital this afternoon to treat Zia.
Bangladeshi media outlet The Daily Star reported, citing hospital sources, that the team members reached Evercare at 2:50 pm. Most of these doctors are from China. It is expected that the foreign medical team will first meet with the local and foreign specialists who have been treating Zia. The medical board has sought opinion from more specialists considering her current health condition.
Earlier on Friday night, medical board sources revealed that the former PM’s kidneys are not functioning properly. If her condition improves, attempts may be made to send her to Britain for better treatment. Since this is not currently possible, consideration is being given to sending her to Singapore. However, the first priority is Zia’s health. The BNP chief is not in a condition to travel at this time.
According to Dhaka Tribune, BNP Vice Chairman Advocate Ahmad Azam Khan said on Monday, “Begum Zia’s condition has become critical again. She has been on ventilation support since Sunday night.”
The 80-year-old former Prime Minister is battling several chronic illnesses, including heart problems, diabetes, arthritis, liver cirrhosis and kidney complications. According to a statement issued by doctors, Khaleda Zia is currently not fit for any travel.
Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir had stated that Khaleda Zia’s treatment is being conducted under the supervision of renowned Bangladeshi doctors along with specialists from Johns Hopkins in America and London Clinic in Britain. Earlier this year on January 7, Khaleda Zia had gone to London for better treatment and returned home on May 6 after staying for 117 days.
