New Delhi, June 24: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will chair the 10th high-level meeting of the Narco-Coordination Centre (NCORD) on June 26 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.
This meeting, organized by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), aims to strengthen the government’s efforts to realize Prime Minister Modi‘s vision of a drug-free India. It will bring together key stakeholders from 44 central ministries and departments, along with 108 representatives from state governments and drug law enforcement agencies, in a hybrid format.
During the event, the Home Minister will release the ‘Vision Document on Drug Control (2026-2029)’. Developed after extensive consultations with relevant government departments, drug enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders, this document provides a shared roadmap to tackle the drug problem by focusing on demand reduction, supply reduction, and harm reduction. It envisions a network-centric enforcement approach and includes measures to address challenges related to synthetic drugs and trafficking via the dark web over the next three years. Additionally, it aims to keep youth away from drugs and enhance access to treatment and rehabilitation centers for users, all to be implemented in a coordinated and sustained manner. The document clearly defines the responsibilities, timelines, and goals of all stakeholders, integrating enforcement, demand reduction, rehabilitation, public awareness, capacity building, and inter-agency coordination. It will serve as a guiding framework for policy formulation, implementation, and institutional strengthening in combating the drug issue nationwide.
On this occasion, Amit Shah will also release the NCB Annual Report for 2025 and inaugurate newly constructed NCB regional offices in Jammu and Guwahati. The ‘Drug Disposal Fortnight Campaign’ is a special initiative aimed at destroying narcotics. During this fortnight, various central and state law enforcement agencies are expected to destroy approximately 209,500 kilograms of narcotics across the country, valued at around ₹6,000 crores.
This meeting will provide a platform for a comprehensive review and assessment of the collective efforts made by all relevant stakeholders to address the drug problem in the country. Through this program, participating states, departments, and agencies will be assisted in moving forward with renewed enthusiasm and commitment to achieve effective control over narcotics. Emphasizing the need for a “Whole-of-Government Approach,” this high-level meeting will discuss key issues related to effectively combating drug trafficking and substance abuse across the country over the next three years.
This important meeting is expected to further strengthen the ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ against drug trafficking adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
