
Pathanamthitta, April 26: Preparations for India’s 16th National Census are nearing completion in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. Training for district and supervisory officials has concluded at the Collectorate Gavi conference room. Over the past six days, two batches of officials received training.
The training was led by K. Shrikumar, a data processing assistant from the Census Directorate, and C.K. Karthika, a statistical investigator.
Topics covered included the significance and history of the census, the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS) portal, responsibilities of district and supervisory officials, enumerators, and supervisors, as well as the preparation of housing lists and self-enumeration. Practical sessions on using the CMMS portal were also conducted.
The census will take place in two phases during 2026-27, which include housing listing and population enumeration. The first phase for housing listing will occur from July 1 to July 31.
To coordinate census activities in the district, the District Collector has been appointed as the Chief Census Officer, the Additional District Magistrate as the District Census Officer, and other district heads as Additional District Census Officers. Revenue division officials have been designated as Sub-Divisional Census Officers. Tehsildars and municipal secretaries have also been assigned as charge census officers.
