Thiruvananthapuram, June 13: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala, asserted on Friday that significant progress has been made in the state’s development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking 12 years of the Modi government. He accused previous state administrations of undermining Kerala’s economic foundation.
Chandrasekhar highlighted that the central government’s intervention has transformed key sectors in Kerala. He cited record investments in railways, road infrastructure, welfare schemes, and drinking water projects.
He further noted that railway allocations to the state have increased tenfold during Modi’s tenure, while over 2.75 million farmers have received nearly ₹13,000 crore under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
The BJP leader also emphasized the central government’s welfare initiatives, claiming that around 15 million people in Kerala have benefited from free grain distribution, and more than 2.2 million families have received new drinking water connections.
Chandrasekhar stated that Kerala needs a focus on development and economic strength rather than politics based on empty promises. He pointed out the stark contrast between Modi’s development-oriented vision and the state’s current economic challenges.
Discussing Kerala’s financial situation, he mentioned that the documents and figures presented by the state government reveal the severity of the financial crisis. According to him, the state is paying the price for policies adopted over the years that have weakened its economic foundation.
He also criticized the Congress party, alleging that despite being aware of the state’s fragile financial condition, it continues to make unrealistic electoral promises.
Chandrasekhar argued that Kerala requires responsible governance focused on job creation, attracting investment, and long-term development, rather than politically convenient commitments.
He concluded by stating that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India’s emergence as a global center for technology and innovation enhances the country’s international reputation. He referenced advancements in startups, digital infrastructure, semiconductor investments, and welfare schemes.
