Ranchi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : The Jharkhand High Court has taken a firm stance regarding internet disruptions in Ranchi following the removal of tangled internet and cable wires from electricity poles. During a hearing on a public interest petition, the court demanded answers from all internet service providers about when and where connections were cut, and how many have been restored.
Chief Justice M.S. Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar instructed the immediate restoration of services and requested a compliance report. Senior officials from major telecom companies, including BSNL, Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea, attended the hearing in person, where the court sought status reports on the disruptions and restorations.
The court emphasized that the removal of wires should not lead to indefinite service interruptions for the public. It noted that misunderstandings surrounding the order have caused unnecessary hardship for residents.
During the proceedings, the court expressed strong dissatisfaction with the demeanor of BSNL’s Chief General Manager, Vipul Agarwal, particularly regarding an inappropriate response to a court official’s phone call. The court has mandated that Agarwal submit a written and unconditional apology by September 14.
BSNL and Jio representatives informed the court that the disrupted internet line has been restored, and assurances were given that private internet connections would be reinstated soon. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for September 16.
