Thiruvananthapuram, February 27: VD Satheesan has accused Kerala’s Health Minister Veena George of becoming a subject of ridicule among the public. Speaking to reporters in Adur, he stated, “People start laughing as soon as her name is mentioned.”
Satheesan alleged that the CPI(M) has widely propagated a “clear lie” claiming that Health Minister Veena George was injured during a KSU protest in Kannur on Wednesday, which has incited violence across Kerala.
He further claimed that a bomb was thrown at the home of a KSU leader involved in the protest, and false cases were fabricated to imprison KSU workers on charges of attempted murder.
Reports indicate that five KSU activists have been arrested and are currently in jail for protesting against Veena George and displaying black flags upon her arrival at the Kannur railway platform.
Satheesan emphasized that it has become evident to the people of Kerala that the statements made by the minister, Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and CPI-M state secretary M.V. Govindan regarding the Kannur railway platform incident were false.
He alleged that the CPI-M leaders referenced an attack to incite statewide unrest, which never actually occurred.
Additionally, Satheesan mentioned that promotional materials related to his visit were destroyed in Pathanamthitta, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram, and several individuals were injured in these incidents. He noted that there were also attacks on homes using homemade bombs.
Commenting on M.V. Govindan, Satheesan dismissed the allegations that KSU workers grabbed the minister’s scarf and hand as baseless, asserting they were made to incite violence.
He claimed that the “attack narrative” was a conspiracy to divert attention from issues within the health sector, which has now been debunked.
Satheesan stated, “The medical bulletin does not mention any injuries from the attack. The media, railways, and the public know this was merely a drama.” He added that despite circulating reports about the possibility of surgery, there was no need for hospitalization.
He called for the withdrawal of attempted murder charges against KSU workers and demanded that a case be filed against M.V. Govindan for allegedly inciting violence.
Satheesan concluded that the opposition will fight this issue on both political and legal fronts and urged the CPI(M) to immediately cease the violence.
