Thiruvananthapuram, July 1: The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has decided to lift the three-year ban imposed on former international cricketer Sreesanth. This news comes as a relief for Sreesanth, who was a key member of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2013.
The ban was initially imposed after Sreesanth allegedly made statements through visual and social media that were deemed disrespectful to the association. He challenged this decision in the Thiruvananthapuram Munsiff Court, but his petition was dismissed. Following this, Sreesanth expressed regret over his remarks and officially apologized unconditionally to the KCA.
During a special general body meeting held on July 1, 2026, KCA members discussed his apology in detail. Considering his unconditional remorse, the general body unanimously decided to lift the ban. However, the association warned that any similar behavior in the future would lead to strict disciplinary action against him.
With the ban lifted, Sreesanth will continue to serve as a co-owner of the Aries Kollam Sellers franchise in the Kerala Cricket League (KCSL) Season 3. The KCA had imposed the ban before the previous KCL season.
Sreesanth has been one of the prominent cricketers from Kerala, representing the Indian team across all formats. Between 2005 and 2011, he played 27 Tests, 53 ODIs, and 10 T20s for India. The right-arm fast bowler has recorded 87 wickets in Tests, 75 in ODIs, and 7 in T20s.
His career faced a setback in 2013 due to allegations of fixing in the IPL, leading to a lifetime ban from the BCCI. In July 2015, a special court in Delhi acquitted him of all criminal charges related to IPL spot-fixing. In March 2019, the Supreme Court also lifted the lifetime ban imposed by the BCCI.
