Mumbai, February 19: The Hindi trailer for the controversial film ‘The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’ was released on February 18. In a related development, the makers also launched the trailer in Telugu and Kannada on Thursday.
With the trailer’s release, tensions have escalated. Kerala Chief Minister P. Vijayan has labeled the film as propaganda and a threat to secularism, voicing strong opposition against it.
In his remarks on social media platform X, CM Vijayan called for a boycott of the film. He stated, “The news regarding the release of the sequel to the hate-mongering film ‘The Kerala Story’ should be taken seriously. Kerala, which has understood the communal agenda and blatant lies presented in the first part, has once again decided to boycott this attempt to tarnish secularism.”
He further expressed, “It is shocking that stories fabricated to incite communal riots are given a free pass, while critical artistic expression is suppressed. We must unite to oppose these attempts to portray our harmonious land as a hub of terror. The truth will always prevail.”
CM Vijayan’s post indicates that the film may face significant challenges during its release in Kerala. The film is also set to be released in Telugu and Kannada.
Producer Vipul Shah has previously clarified that those opposing the film want to conceal the truth. In a recent interview, he stated that the individuals depicted in the film, who exploit Hindu girls, are not just offenders but terrorists. “If you attempt to expose such people, they will certainly feel offended and will try to prove it false,” he added.
The first part of the film also faced controversy in several states but still achieved remarkable success. Similar expectations are held for the sequel, which is scheduled to hit theaters on February 27.
