Devastating Fire in Uttarkashi: Eight Homes and Six Granaries Destroyed

Uttarkashi, March 25: A severe fire broke out last night in the remote village of Fitaari, located in the Mori block, causing widespread destruction. Within just a few hours, the blaze completely consumed eight residential houses and six granaries. Tragically, three cows also perished in the fire.

The fire erupted around 11 PM, sending shockwaves through the village. Residents attempted to extinguish the flames on their own, but strong winds caused the fire to spread rapidly.

District Magistrate Prashant Arya promptly dispatched teams from the SDRF, revenue, health, and police departments to the scene. Relief and rescue teams, with the support of local residents, worked tirelessly to bring the fire under control. Authorities reported that the situation is now fully managed, but affected families have suffered significant financial losses.

DM Prashant Arya visited the site and comforted the victims. He stated, “During this difficult time, the administration stands firmly with you. We will provide all possible assistance.” Immediate relief materials were dispatched, including tents, tarpaulins, cookware sets, gas stoves, blankets, mattresses, hygiene kits, solar lights, and other essential items. A relief camp has been set up at the Fitaari High School to provide shelter and food for the affected families.

Regional MLA Durgeshwar Lal also arrived late at night to meet with the victims, assuring them of all possible financial and rehabilitation support from the government.

The DM and the MLA held a meeting with the villagers to listen to their concerns. The villagers requested a permanent water supply system in the village. The District Magistrate immediately instructed the construction of water tanks, emphasizing that these tanks would not only be useful during disasters like fires but would also provide regular drinking water to the village. He directed that this project be prioritized in the next district plan.

Assistance funds have already been distributed to the affected families, and additional financial aid for rebuilding homes will be provided soon.
