New Delhi, April 21: BJP leader and MP Basanti Swaraj held a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Tuesday, targeting former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Swaraj stated, “Yesterday, the Delhi High Court issued a ruling. Justice Swarnakanta rejected Kejriwal’s pressure tactics, establishing a new dimension of judicial independence. We collectively commend and welcome this. Arvind Kejriwal is a bully. He attempted to exert pressure on a female member of our esteemed judiciary. The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal’s request to transfer the case, reminding him that this country’s judicial system does not operate at his convenience but under the Constitution and law.”
She further added, “After the order on March 9, Kejriwal filed a petition on March 11 before the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, requesting the removal of the case from Justice Swarnakanta, as he was unhappy with the March 9 ruling. This proves that the Aam Aadmi Party is a drama company, with Kejriwal as its director.”
On March 13, he petitioned Justice Swarnakanta, stating that they did not like her and requested her to recuse herself from the case. This initiated a calculated conspiracy against the judicial system of this country.
The Aam Aadmi Party launched a malicious media and social media campaign against Justice Swarnakanta to control the narrative. Personal allegations were made against her and even against her children. This was not merely a matter concerning a judge; it was a decisive conspiracy. It was not about perception but about control. They forgot that courts operate not under pressure but under the Constitution.
Swaraj remarked, “Kejriwal is not only acting theatrically but is also scared. He knows that the order from the Rouse Avenue Court may not hold up under judicial scrutiny in the High Court. In a previous case, all evidence, witnesses, and materials were presented before the Delhi High Court, which led to the cancellation of bail for Kejriwal and other accused. He is frightened because he knows the Delhi High Court can ensure justice for the people of Delhi.”
The anti-women face of the Aam Aadmi Party has emerged. They opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill, denying women’s rights. The Aam Aadmi Party wants women to remain limited to just voting.
Notably, in the Delhi liquor policy case, Justice Swarnakanta Sharma firmly denied the request to recuse herself from the proceedings. Kejriwal’s petition questioned her impartiality, which the court outright rejected. Justice Sharma stated that the challenge to her judicial integrity and honesty was not only inappropriate but also an assault on judicial independence.
