Karnataka Minister Jamir Ahmed Khan Dismisses JD(S) Return Speculations

Bengaluru, April 21: Karnataka’s Housing and Wakf Minister B. Jamir Ahmed Khan has firmly rejected rumors about his potential return to the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) after leaving the Congress party. He also dismissed reports of secret discussions with Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy as unfounded.

As a close associate of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Khan faces the possibility of losing his ministry amid allegations of anti-party activities related to the upcoming by-elections in Davanagere South. The Congress party has already taken action against two MLCs, removing them from party positions. Sources within the party indicate that disciplinary action against Khan is also under consideration.

Amidst this backdrop, rumors have circulated suggesting that the minister might return to JD(S) and that he has been in talks with Kumaraswamy. Speaking to the media in Bengaluru, Khan categorically denied these claims.

“These are just rumors. Why would I return to JD(S), the party I left? How has the Congress harmed me?” he stated. Reflecting on his 2017 entry into Congress, he mentioned that he never expected to be appointed as a minister in Kumaraswamy’s coalition government in 2018. “I had no expectations, but the party recognized me and entrusted me with five departments,” he added.

Comparing his tenure in JD(S) with his current role, Khan noted that he previously managed only the Wakf and Hajj departments. In contrast, the Congress has assigned him significant responsibilities, including Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Minority Welfare, and Hajj. He emphasized that he currently oversees four major departments in the Karnataka government.

Questioning the speculations about leaving Congress, Khan asked, “How has the Congress made me feel neglected? I have been made a minister twice—what more can I ask for?” He denied any form of contact with Kumaraswamy, stating, “Why would I engage in secret discussions with him? No such talks have occurred.”

Khan criticized those spreading rumors, urging them to provide evidence for their claims. “Those making such statements should at least disclose their sources,” he concluded.
