Karnataka Budget Announcement Expected Soon from CM Siddaramaiah

Davanagere, February 10: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Monday that the date for the state budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 will be revealed soon. This will mark Siddaramaiah’s 17th budget presentation, making him the longest-serving finance minister and chief minister in the state’s history.

The upcoming budget will set a record for any finance minister in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah has already begun preparatory meetings with various government departments. He spoke to the media at the helipad located within the premises of Shri Maharishi Valmiki Gurupith.

The Chief Minister stated that preparations for the state budget are underway and the presentation date will be announced shortly. He also mentioned the demand for establishing a tribal university in the state, indicating that the government will consider this proposal. This announcement carries significant political implications.

According to insiders from the Congress party, this announcement strongly signals Siddaramaiah’s intention to complete his full term as Chief Minister, dispelling rumors of a leadership change.

Responding to media inquiries about the increase in metro fares, the Chief Minister clarified that the fare is determined by the metro chairperson appointed by the central government, and the state government has no role in this decision.

Regarding Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s planned trip to Delhi to discuss metro fares, Siddaramaiah suggested that the media should seek answers from Shivakumar directly.

The Chief Minister criticized the agreement between India and the United States, claiming it would be unfair to farmers, and accused the Prime Minister of yielding to American pressure.

In response to demands for a ministerial position for members of the Valmiki community, Siddaramaiah stated that no ministers have been removed from the cabinet, and any resignations were due to unavoidable circumstances. He mentioned that this issue would be addressed during the next cabinet expansion.

When asked about Minister S.S. Mallikarjun’s resignation, Siddaramaiah dismissed the claim as far from the truth.

Meanwhile, on social media, Siddaramaiah expressed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence during the Lok Sabha debate on the thank-you motion for the President’s address is cowardice. He noted that for the first time in India’s parliamentary history, this motion passed without a response from the Prime Minister. A Prime Minister who stays away from Parliament also evades accountability.

Siddaramaiah further stated that it is concerning that the government silenced the opposition and then chose to remain silent itself. He highlighted that when opposition leader Rahul Gandhi raised serious national security issues and sought to place excerpts from former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane’s book on record, he was not allowed to complete his speech.

The Chief Minister alleged that Prime Minister Modi opted not to attend the Lok Sabha to avoid answering questions. He criticized the biased conduct of Speaker Om Birla, which he claimed has further tarnished the dignity of the Lok Sabha. The Speaker’s role is to protect Parliament, not to serve as a shield for the executive.
