Karnataka BJP Demands CBI Inquiry into Solid Waste Management Tender Irregularities

Bengaluru, June 13: Senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Karnataka Assembly, R. Ashok, has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged irregularities in the solid waste management tender. He accused the state government of being involved in a major corruption scandal.

In a statement, Ashok targeted Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, alleging that the government is evading a thorough investigation into the matter. He referred to the Chief Minister as the ‘chief commission minister.’

Referencing Shivakumar’s claim that he is ready to face any investigation, Ashok challenged him to hand the case over to the CBI if he believes that neither he nor his government has any role in the alleged irregularities.

Ashok emphasized that instead of making statements to the media, the Chief Minister should demonstrate his commitment to transparency by ordering a CBI investigation into the alleged scam.

The BJP leader alleged that a massive corruption racket has been operating under the guise of the solid waste disposal tender, asserting that the truth will only emerge through an independent inquiry.

He stated that he himself would file a complaint regarding the alleged irregularities and urged the government to order a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Furthermore, he claimed that commissions were taken in relation to the tender process and demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.

Ashok insisted that the people of Karnataka have the right to know the truth behind the alleged corruption and the real face of this government.

On Friday, R. Ashok launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, accusing the Congress government of corruption, lack of transparency, and shielding those allegedly involved in the Bengaluru waste tender controversy.

Central Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy also alleged on Friday that there have been significant irregularities in the solid waste management tender worth approximately ₹39,000 crores, calling it one of the largest scams in Karnataka’s history.

In response to the first major allegation of ₹10,000 crores in bribery related to the Bengaluru waste management tender, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar retaliated on Wednesday, accusing senior BJP leader R. Ashok of acting as an agent for the ‘garbage mafia’ and engaging in jealousy-driven politics.
