Kanpur, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : The Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) took decisive action on September 19, demolishing illegal structures, including a boundary wall, on government land in Bari village. This move was part of an effort to reclaim approximately 500 square meters of land, identified as belonging to the KDA.
KDA officials reported that the encroachment involved the construction of a boundary wall and additional rooms on the land, designated as Arazi number 314. A team from the KDA, accompanied by police forces, arrived at the site early in the morning to initiate the demolition process. The boundary wall was the first to be taken down, followed by the structures built within.
To maintain law and order during the operation, personnel from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and female police officers were deployed, along with an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) overseeing the proceedings.
Prior to the demolition, the KDA had issued a notice under Section 26(k)(4) of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Planning and Development Act, 1973, requesting a response from the management of the local Muslim cemetery committee regarding the encroachment. The KDA made it clear that unsatisfactory responses could lead to demolition actions.
According to KDA officials, the related parties were given the opportunity to present their case before the demolition order was issued. Shat Shukla, the KDA’s Officer on Special Duty, stated that a substantial portion of the cemetery had encroached upon government land. He emphasized that all legal procedures were followed prior to the demolition, ensuring that the involved parties had a chance for a hearing.
Shukla also mentioned that a writ petition had been filed in the High Court by the concerned parties, which was subsequently dismissed. After the petition was rejected, and with the encroachers failing to remove the illegal structures themselves, the KDA proceeded with the demolition. The operation aimed to clear the encroachment from government land, and the KDA claims to have successfully reclaimed around 500 square meters.
