Nagoya, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : Pawan Sehrawat, a prominent figure in Indian kabaddi, is filled with pride after being appointed as the flag bearer for India at the Asian Games 2026 opening ceremony in Nagoya. His selection came after Tejinderpal Singh Toor withdrew due to technical issues.
Reflecting on this honor, Pawan shared, “I am extremely excited to carry the Indian flag. I couldn’t sleep all night after learning about my selection. It’s a moment of great pride for me.” He added that he typically follows the training schedule set by his coach or the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Despite his sleepless night, he managed to hit the gym early in the morning before heading to the venue.
In a video released by the IOA, Pawan stated, “I stayed awake all night, but I still have the energy to carry my country’s flag. This is a proud moment for me.” He revealed that he kept the news to himself, sharing it only with his older brother, who called him that night. It was only in the morning that he informed everyone about his role as flag bearer.
Joining him at the ceremony will be Manu Bhaker, who won two bronze medals at the Paris Games and was also the captain of the team that secured gold in the 2022 Asian Games. Pawan expressed his admiration for Bhaker, saying, “I have met her before. She is a very inspiring athlete. It’s a proud moment for me to walk alongside an Olympic medalist.”
He recalled their first meeting, where Bhaker delivered an inspiring speech to the entire Indian team. “Now, we will have our second meeting,” he added, looking forward to the event.
