Guwahati, August 5: Union Health Minister JP Nadda visited flood-affected regions in Assam on Wednesday, meeting with impacted residents and assuring them that the central government will provide all possible assistance for relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts. He emphasized that no resources would be spared to restore the lives of those affected by the floods.
Accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Nadda toured the flood-hit areas of Bihubor and Nepali Khuti in Sivasagar district. During his visit, he engaged with affected families and assessed the ground realities.
Addressing the affected individuals, Nadda stated that the central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stands firmly with the people of Assam. He assured, “On behalf of the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I promise Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and all the people of Assam that there will be no shortage of funds or resources for relief efforts. The central government is providing full financial support to the state.”
Nadda mentioned that central government teams are already conducting a detailed assessment of the damage caused by the floods to expedite rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts. He affirmed that the central government is fully engaged in the relief and rehabilitation process.
The floods in Sivasagar district have caused significant devastation. Hundreds of homes have been damaged, agricultural land has been submerged, and a large number of livestock have been lost. The floods have also affected roads and other public infrastructure, forcing many families to seek shelter in relief camps and temporary accommodations.
During the visit, both the central minister and the chief minister met with displaced families residing in relief camps to gather information about the losses they incurred, including homes, household goods, crops, and livelihoods. They also reviewed the progress of relief and rehabilitation efforts with officials.
It is noteworthy that the Assam government is conducting a campaign to assess damages and carry out relief work in the affected districts. The state government has announced compensation and financial assistance for damaged homes, crops, livestock, and livelihoods. Additionally, work is ongoing to repair damaged public infrastructure.
This assurance from the central government is expected to accelerate the ongoing rehabilitation efforts in the state, helping thousands of flood-affected families return to normalcy as soon as possible.
