Jos Buttler Struggles in T20 World Cup with Just 62 Runs

Colombo, February 28: In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Jos Buttler, renowned for his explosive batting, is facing a significant slump. Across seven matches, he has managed to score only 62 runs. In a recent match against New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium, Buttler returned to the pavilion without scoring.

Buttler’s poor form has become a persistent issue for the England wicketkeeper-batsman. He has yet to surpass the 30-run mark in this tournament, with scores of 26, 21, 3, 3, 7, 2, and 0. Throughout five matches, he has failed to reach double digits.

Expectations were high for Buttler to deliver a strong performance against New Zealand, but he once again disappointed fans and teammates alike. Despite England securing a spot in the semifinals, Buttler’s recent struggles have raised concerns within the team. His lack of runs is putting additional pressure on captain Harry Brook and the rest of the batting lineup.

In the Super-8 round, New Zealand batted first, scoring 159 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Glenn Phillips was the standout performer for New Zealand, scoring 39 runs, including four fours and a six. Tim Seifert contributed 35 runs off 25 balls.

England’s spin bowlers excelled in this match. Will Jacks continued his impressive form, taking two wickets for just 23 runs in four overs. Adil Rashid also claimed two wickets, conceding 28 runs. Rehan Ahmed, who replaced Jamie Overton in the playing eleven, delivered a commendable performance, taking two wickets for 28 runs.
