Afghanistan Announces Captains for Multi-Format Series Against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh

Kabul, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : Afghanistan has unveiled its teams for the upcoming multi-format series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Rahmat Shah will lead the squad in the One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test matches, while Ibrahim Zadran will take charge of the T20 team.

The series kicks off with a Test match against Bangladesh on October 9, followed by a tri-nation ODI series involving Zimbabwe. Afghanistan will also play a three-match T20 series and a two-match Test series against Zimbabwe later on.

Rahmat Shah continues his role as captain for the ODI and Test formats. Ibrahim Zadran is set to lead the T20 side against Zimbabwe. Notably, uncapped all-rounder Abdullah Tarakhil has been included in the T20 team for the first time. Mohammad Akram, who made his international debut at the 2026 Asian Games, will also be part of the T20 series.

Middle-order batsman Ejaz Ahmadzai and Shahidullah Kamal have made their return to the T20 team, while experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been left out. Darvesh Rasooli has also been omitted from both the T20 and ODI squads.

Rashid Khan and Ibrahim Zadran have been rested from the Test format, as advised by the Afghanistan Cricket Board. Ismat Alam returns to the Test squad after missing the lone Test against India in June.

Following an impressive domestic first-class season, fast bowler Yamin Ahmadzai is back in the red-ball team. Shahidullah Kamal’s consistent performances have earned him a spot, strengthening Afghanistan’s batting lineup.

In the coming months, Afghanistan’s busy schedule will test the team across all formats, starting with the Test against Bangladesh and subsequent matches against Zimbabwe.

The Afghanistan team for the Test against Bangladesh includes: Rahmat Shah (captain), Ikram Alikhil, Afsar Jazi, Sediqullah Atal, Abdul Malik, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmanullah Zadran, Shahidullah Kamal, Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad, Zia Ur Rahman Akbar, Khalil Gurbaz, Mohammad Salim Safi, Zia Ur Rahman Sharifi, and Yamin Ahmadzai.

The squad for the T20 series against Zimbabwe features: Ibrahim Zadran (captain), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Noor Rahman, Sediqullah Atal, Mohammad Akram, Shahidullah Kamal, Ejaz Ahmadzai, Azmatullah Omarzai, Abdullah Tarakhil, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, Abdullah Ahmadzai, and Farid Ahmad Malik.

For the ODI tri-series, the Afghanistan team consists of: Rahmat Shah (captain), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ikram Alikhil, Sediqullah Atal, Ibrahim Zadran, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Nangialai Khan, AM Gazanfir, Bilal Sami, Zia Ur Rahman Sharifi, Fazal Haq Farooqi, and Yamin Ahmadzai.
