JMM to Contest 19 Seats in Assam Elections, Manoj Pandey Urges Congress to Honor Alliance

Ranchi, March 23: Manoj Pandey, spokesperson for the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has addressed the ongoing tensions regarding the alliance with Congress and the distribution of seats for the upcoming elections in Assam.

In a recent conversation, Pandey stated, “According to the information I have, we will contest 19 seats. If Congress is serious about the alliance, they should field candidates only for the remaining seats, excluding the 19 we have declared. To form a secular government in Assam, Congress must honor the alliance, as we cannot compromise beyond a certain limit. We will not negotiate our dignity. Given our support base and the popularity of Hemant Soren, we deserve our rightful share.”

Responding to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s comments, Pandey remarked, “Gaurav Gogoi is well aware of the leaders and the state of Assam. There is some truth in his words, as those who were once in Congress are now dominating the BJP.”

On the participation of suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir’s party alongside Owaisi, Pandey commented, “I believe Owaisi has achieved some success in one or two states. However, he has strengthened the BJP and weakened secular parties, boosting their morale. I don’t think he will be suitable in the context of Bengal.”

Recently, Congress leaders Bhawan Jitendra Singh and Gaurav Gogoi visited Ranchi to discuss seat sharing with Chief Minister Hemant Soren. However, an agreement on the seat distribution has yet to be reached between the two parties.

Sources indicate that Congress is inclined to offer fewer seats to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, while the latter is firm on contesting 19 seats.
