Ranchi, August 20: The ongoing protest against alleged irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC examinations in Jharkhand has been suspended for two months. This decision comes after the government provided assurances to the JPSC-JSSC Reform Platform, which has been protesting for 26 days. The platform stated that students have chosen to trust the government once again, hoping this time their faith will not be broken. The government is now expected to take concrete and transparent actions in the interest of the students. They warned that if there is any negligence or bias in the investigation process, the protest will resume.
Following the announcement to suspend the protest, a press conference was held by the platform. Students expressed that the government has acknowledged irregularities in the examinations during a cabinet meeting and has made several important decisions. They noted that if the government had acted on students’ complaints and conducted an investigation in a timely manner, they might not have needed to protest for 25 days.
Students mentioned that the government has indicated it will approach the court regarding matters related to the JPSC and JSSC examinations. They urged the government to strongly present the students’ case and the alleged irregularities in court. If the government fails to effectively advocate for the students, it would be seen as a betrayal. The students associated with the platform emphasized that the investigation should be conducted under judicial oversight and in a completely transparent manner. They stressed that the aim of the investigation should not only be to cancel the exams but also to identify those responsible for the irregularities and take action against them.
Protesting students have also demanded the withdrawal of cases filed against them during the protest. They argued that they have exercised their democratic right to protest for justice and, therefore, the cases against them should be dropped. Additionally, students raised concerns regarding the PGT examination, alleging that results have been released for three consecutive years, accompanied by accusations of irregularities.
The platform has called for the cancellation of the PGT examination and a thorough investigation into the matter. Students asserted that many facts related to the alleged irregularities are publicly available and should be investigated. They also questioned the approximately 90% cutoff in the municipal recruitment examination, demanding an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in this exam as well. Students stated that if the investigation affects the recruitment process, candidates who exceed the age limit during this period should also be given opportunities.
