Ranchi, May 11: Aditya Sahu, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand and a Member of Parliament, has demanded a CBI investigation into the recently uncovered treasury scam in the state. In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Sahu asserted that this treasury scandal appears to be more extensive and serious than the infamous animal husbandry scam from the time of undivided Bihar.
He alleged that the current investigation process seems to be merely a formality and an “eyewash.” Therefore, he emphasized the urgent need to hand over the entire matter to the CBI for a thorough investigation. The BJP state president sharply accused that the illegal withdrawal of crores of rupees is backed by individuals at the top of the system and power.
Sahu stated that this could not be the work of a few minor employees or home guard personnel; rather, it indicates a well-organized nexus that has looted the state treasury. He raised concerns about the government’s intentions, noting that a month has passed since the scam came to light, yet the actions taken so far raise doubts.
He urged the Chief Minister to release a white paper detailing the total amount of illegal withdrawals from various districts and the specific irregularities identified by the Accountant General. Sahu posed five questions to the Chief Minister, asking why the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe has been limited to Bokaro and Hazaribagh when illegal withdrawals have also occurred in districts like Ranchi, Chaibasa, and Palamu.
He also questioned the security of the e-Kuber portal used for digital transactions, asking why departmental officials and Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) were unaware of any tampering with the master database. The letter further questioned the effectiveness of the regular inspections and audits mandated under the treasury code over the past six years.
Sahu pointed out that those in positions responsible for financial oversight are now under suspicion. He asserted that the money belongs to the people of the state, and the government cannot evade its responsibility by merely citing an investigation. He stressed that this scam is a deep stain on the image of Jharkhand, and without a CBI inquiry, it seems unlikely that the real culprits will be exposed.
