Ranchi, February 25: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has labeled the Jharkhand Assembly’s budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 as directionless. Aditya Sahu, the state party president and MP, addressed a press conference at the state office on Tuesday. He described the proposed budget of ₹1.58 lakh crore as merely a presentation of “vague figures,” lacking a clear vision for the state’s overall development.
Sahu alleged that the state government has only managed to utilize about 50% of the funds from the previous budget, raising questions about the relevance of the new budget provisions. He pointed out that expenditures in crucial sectors such as agriculture, construction, health, drinking water, food security, higher and technical education, and industry have been relatively low. The limited use of the budget allocated for tribal, Dalit, and backward classes is also a cause for concern.
The state BJP president accused the government of repeatedly raising the issue of the alleged ₹1.36 lakh crore dues from the center, yet failing to provide a detailed breakdown. He stated that the central government is providing adequate financial assistance to Jharkhand and that the BJP is ready to cooperate if the state government presents clear details.
Sahu noted that while discussions around child and gender budgets have taken place, there are no solid provisions addressing issues such as missing children, thalassemia-affected children, women’s safety, and payments to farmers at the declared rates for paddy. He also mentioned that the announcement of providing gas cylinders at ₹400 was not included in the budget.
He raised questions about the use of DMFT and CSR funds, demanding transparency. Referring to the assistance from the central government, the BJP MP highlighted that Jharkhand will receive ₹51,236 crore in tax revenue for 2026-27. The central government has opened Jan Dhan accounts for 2.02 crore people in Jharkhand, included 88.4 lakh people in the PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, and 1.6 crore in the PM Suraksha Bima Yojana. Additionally, ₹89,000 crore has been distributed under the Mudra scheme, 25.6 lakh people are enrolled in the Atal Pension Yojana, and 18.8 lakh farmers are benefiting from the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. The Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has benefited 2.64 crore people. Despite this, claiming insufficient assistance from the center in the budget speech is fundamentally misleading.
