Ranchi, March 20: The Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee has expelled former minister and prominent leader Yogendra Sahu from the party for three years. This decision follows his sharp remarks against the current coalition government and Chief Minister Hemant Soren, made via social media and Facebook Live.
The Congress Disciplinary Committee deemed his actions a serious violation of organizational rules and damaging to the party’s image. Satish Paul Munjani, the media chairman of the Jharkhand Congress, announced this decision on Friday, stating that Sahu had been consistently criticizing the government. Given that Congress is a significant partner in the current administration, publicly criticizing the Chief Minister and government policies falls under indiscipline.
The Disciplinary Committee issued the expulsion order, citing violations of various provisions of Section 04 of Congress rules, effective immediately. The controversy originated from an administrative action on Thursday in Barkagaon, Hazaribagh, where a bulldozer demolished Sahu’s house located in the NTPC Chatti Bariyatu coal mining area.
The administration claims the house was situated on land acquired for mining and had not been vacated despite multiple notices. During this operation, Sahu’s daughter and former legislator Amba Prasad protested on-site, alleging that the house was demolished in a ‘tyrannical’ manner without compensation and while a court case was pending.
Outraged by the destruction of his home, Yogendra Sahu directly targeted Chief Minister Hemant Soren on social media. Notably, tensions between NTPC management and Sahu have escalated in recent days. Amid accusations of attacks on company employees and obstruction of work, the administration executed the ‘bulldozer action’ campaign with a heavy police presence.
