New Delhi, August 24: The Supreme Court has directed the Jharkhand government and other relevant parties to respond to a petition seeking a CBI investigation into irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams. The hearing took place on Monday, with Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V Mohanan presiding over the case.
The petition, filed by Harisharan Devgan, alleges widespread irregularities in the recruitment process, including the appointment of ineligible candidates in exchange for money. The petitioner informed the court that serious allegations have surfaced regarding various appointments in Jharkhand. It is claimed that financial transactions occurred during the recruitment process, benefiting unqualified candidates.
Students and candidates have been protesting for a CBI investigation into these allegations for an extended period. The petitioner further argued that the state government is not in favor of a CBI probe, making it essential for an independent investigation by a central agency.
The petition names the state government, central government, CBI, CID, JPSC, and JSSC as respondents. It emphasizes that the scope of the irregularities extends beyond just a few appointments. Following the CID’s investigation, the state government has already canceled 22 recruitment exams and suspended the process for six others. Given the extensive nature of the alleged irregularities, the petitioner contends that a departmental or state agency investigation would not suffice.
Advocate Satyam Rajput represented the petitioner, and following the Supreme Court’s order to issue notices, the state government and other respondents will now present their side of the case.
