New Delhi, July 15: The Central Government has approved a six-month extension for Dr. M. Sai Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu. Dr. Kumar, an IAS officer from the 1990 batch of the Tamil Nadu cadre, will continue in his role until February 28, 2027.
The Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions Ministry issued the order on Wednesday, following a proposal from the Tamil Nadu government dated June 3, 2026.
According to the order, the extension is granted under Rule 16(1) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
The communication, dated July 15, 2026, was addressed by Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Under Secretary of the Government of India, to the Additional Chief Secretary (Public Department) of Tamil Nadu.
The letter states that the Central Government formally approves the extension based on the Tamil Nadu government’s proposal. Copies of the order have also been sent to the Prime Minister‘s Office, the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, and the Chief Resident Commissioner of the Tamil Nadu Bhavan in New Delhi.
Dr. M. Sai Kumar is currently serving as the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu and will remain in office beyond his scheduled retirement date of February 28, 2027, following the Central Government’s approval.
