Tokyo, June 13: Japan’s Prime Minister Sane Takaiichi is set to attend the G7 summit in France. This marks her first participation as Prime Minister. Prior to her European trip, she addressed a press conference.
During her visit, PM Takaiichi will meet with UK and Italian counterparts, Keir Starmer and Giorgia Meloni. They will discuss various issues, including the situations in East Asia, the Middle East, and Ukraine. The talks are expected to focus on enhancing bilateral cooperation in advanced technology, security, AI, quantum technology, space, semiconductors, and offshore wind energy, aiming to strengthen supply chain resilience.
On social media platform X, PM Takaiichi expressed her anticipation for open discussions on critical issues, including geopolitical crises in the Middle East, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific region. She emphasized the importance of cooperation on energy security and market stabilization, particularly in light of the Middle East situation.
Japan will present three proposals at the G7 summit aimed at addressing energy security. These include collaborating with G7 member countries to combat and oppose unjust export restrictions, strengthening oil stockpiles in regions like Asia, and enhancing cooperation between oil-producing and consuming nations to mitigate coercive actions.
PM Takaiichi stated that through these proposals, Japan aims to promote its vision of leading “Power Asia” within the international community. Additionally, Japan plans to propose a joint stockpiling cooperation framework for essential minerals, aiming to assist G7 nations in establishing stockpiling systems and enhancing linkages between these systems.
Before departing for the G7, PM Takaiichi shared her intent on X, stating her commitment to actively present Japan’s policies and initiatives on a global stage, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific perspective. She looks forward to engaging in the deep discussions that characterize the G7.
