New Delhi, July 2: Japanese Prime Minister Sane Takaiichi received a formal welcome at the Presidential Palace on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly greeted his Japanese counterpart upon her arrival.
Following the welcome, both leaders will review and strengthen the full scope of mutual cooperation during the 16th India-Japan annual summit-level talks. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual benefit.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India welcomed PM Takaiichi on social media platform X, stating, “A very warm welcome to Japanese Prime Minister Sane Takaiichi, who is on an official visit to New Delhi. PM Takaiichi was welcomed by MOS Dr. Jitendra Singh. This visit is a crucial step in advancing the strategic and global partnership between India and Japan.”
Earlier in the day, the Japanese Ambassador to India, Ono Keiichi, remarked that Takaiichi’s visit presents a significant opportunity to enhance dialogue between the two nations. He made this statement during the Japan session of the Human Resource Mobility Forum hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs.
The Japanese ambassador expressed on X, “I was pleased to speak at the Japan session of the Human Resource Mobility Forum organized by the Ministry of External Affairs. PM Takaiichi’s visit will be a wonderful opportunity to advance dialogue between our peoples, which is foundational to strengthening our deep and strategic relations.”
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the forum highlighted emerging pathways for cooperation between India and Japan.
The Ministry stated on X, “Promoting skill-based mobility in India-Japan cooperation. The Human Resource Mobility Forum emphasized emerging pathways for collaboration in mobility between India and Japan.”
Before departing for India, Sane Takaiichi emphasized the importance of Japan’s cooperation with India amid current international circumstances.
On Wednesday, she told the media in Tokyo, “Through this visit, I hope to advance concrete cooperation in three key areas: deepening the Japan-India strategic partnership in light of current international circumstances; promoting cooperation in economic security; and strengthening collaboration between businesses in both countries in investment and innovation.”
She added, “During this visit, a Japan-India Joint Economic Forum will take place, featuring representatives from over 150 Japanese companies and business organizations.”
Working closely with the private sector, she expressed hope that the scope of Japan-India cooperation would expand, leading to a robust economy.
PM Takaiichi stated that maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region is a shared responsibility of India and Japan. She expressed eagerness to discuss efforts to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
