Shopian, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : The Jammu and Kashmir police have taken significant action against drug-related crimes in Shopian district. On September 18, officers reported the seizure of a residential property believed to have been purchased with earnings from the drug trade.
The property, located in Melhura village, spans 1,065 square feet and is registered under the name of Farooq Ahmad Shah. Authorities estimate its value at approximately 16.56 lakh rupees. In addition to the property, police also froze and seized cash amounting to 4,73,500 rupees.
Investigations revealed that the residential property was acquired through income generated from illegal drug activities. Consequently, the police attached the property and cash under Section 68-F(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, following an FIR registered at the Zainapora police station.
This operation was conducted in the presence of a specially formed police team, an executive magistrate, local officials, and village guards to ensure adherence to legal protocols and maintain transparency throughout the process.
The Shopian police emphasized their commitment to combating drug trafficking and stated that they would continue to target not only traffickers and drug dealers but also the financial assets linked to their illegal operations.
Authorities have urged the public to report any information regarding drug trafficking or related activities. The administration has clarified that, in addition to punitive actions, stringent measures are being implemented to curb drug trade, including the cancellation of passports, driving licenses, and Aadhaar cards, as well as the seizure of properties acquired through drug trafficking.
To date, joint operations by the Jammu and Kashmir police and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) have led to the arrest of thousands of drug traffickers and syndicate operators. Additionally, hundreds of driving licenses and vehicle registrations associated with drug transport have been revoked, while licenses for several medical stores and pharmacies found in violation of regulations have also been suspended.
