New Delhi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced plans to protest outside the office of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Vijay Kumar on Saturday. This follows allegations of financial fraud and incitement to suicide related to a municipal worker’s death.
The protest comes just a day after Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Kumar. BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor stated that the party’s women’s wing will demand Kumar’s resignation during the demonstration.
Kapoor accused AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj of protecting the accused. He noted that despite Malhotra raising the issue, AAP leadership has yet to take action against their councillor.
“This protest is not just about one councillor,” Kapoor said. “It is a stand against the political silence surrounding a representative facing serious allegations, seemingly evading accountability.”
He warned that if Kumar does not resign by Saturday and AAP fails to act, the Delhi BJP will stage another protest outside the AAP office on Feroz Shah Road on Sunday.
Kapoor expressed concern over AAP’s silence amid the emotional and financial turmoil faced by the deceased employee’s family. He urged Kejriwal and Bhardwaj to clarify whether AAP stands with Kumar or is committed to delivering justice for the deceased sanitation worker and his family.
He emphasized that Kumar must justify his continued position and ensure a fair investigation into the matter.
Earlier, Malhotra criticized AAP for its double standards, stating that the tragic incident highlights the party’s failures. The deceased worker, Deepak, had worked for years in the Trilokpuri ward and sought Kumar’s assistance in building a home for his family.
Allegations suggest that Kumar promised Deepak help in purchasing a house and facilitated a loan of 1.5 million rupees, which was transferred to his own account. Kumar also reportedly seized Deepak’s signed bank checkbook and used it to withdraw Deepak’s salary for several months.
According to Malhotra, Deepak had been pleading with Kumar for months to either arrange the house or return his money. Instead, Kumar allegedly threatened to transfer him and demanded a 25% commission on the loan amount.
