Srinagar, August 14: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, 52 officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police were honored with bravery and commendation service medals.
An official statement revealed that 51 officers were selected for prestigious police medals this Independence Day. Among these awards, 38 medals were for bravery, while 13 were for commendable service. Additionally, one member of the Jammu and Kashmir Home Guard and Civil Defense received a commendation service medal.
The bravery medals were awarded to 38 officers, including DIG Shiv Kumar, SSP Shobhit D. Saxena, SP Mushtaq Ahmed, and Deputy SP Sarfaraz Bashir. Thirteen police personnel received commendation service medals. SSP Shaukat Hussain Shah was also honored with the President’s Medal for distinguished service.
These awards recognize bravery, exceptional service, and noteworthy contributions in policing and other uniformed services.
Last year, on Independence Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Police received the highest number of medals in the country, securing 127 bravery medals out of a total of 152 regional awards.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have been at the forefront of combating terrorism in the Union Territory. In the early 1990s, the police were seen as hesitant to confront terrorism. However, they later took the lead not only in fighting terrorism but also in making the ultimate sacrifice for the nation’s security and integrity.
The police force in the Union Territory is regarded as one of the bravest and most disciplined, serving as a role model for forces in other states and Union Territories. Since 1989, over 1,600 officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police have made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting terrorism and maintaining peace and security in the region.
