Jammu and Kashmir Police Conducts Raids Against Online Terrorism Promotion

Srinagar, August 8: The Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) branch of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted multiple raids across the valley on Saturday. This action is linked to an ongoing investigation into the online promotion of terrorism, as per a previously registered FIR.

Officials reported that the CIK launched these operations in connection with a terrorist case involving the recruitment of individuals into terrorist organizations through online platforms.

Raids were carried out in various districts, including Baramulla, Shopian, Anantnag, Kupwara, and Bandipora.

The operations are associated with FIR number 03/2023, which cites violations under sections 505 and 153-A of the Indian Penal Code, as well as sections 13 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Authorities stated, “This case pertains to the misuse of online platforms for glorifying terrorism and influencing individuals to join terrorist organizations.”

The CIK is a specialized unit within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Its focus is on detecting, investigating, and dismantling terrorist networks, financing, and anti-national activities within the Kashmir Valley.

Key responsibilities of the CIK include uncovering covert recruitment modules, white-collar terrorist activities, and cross-border handler networks.

The CIK also aims to prevent technical signatures, curb the misuse of encrypted messaging apps, and target cyber-fraud networks linked to terrorist financing.

The raids were supported by court warrants that authorize the seizure of objectionable digital evidence and communication hardware.

As a crucial part of the CID, which is tasked with safeguarding the security of the Union Territory, the CIK plays a significant role in intelligence gathering. This includes analyzing and sharing information to support policy decisions, strengthen law enforcement, and ensure effective governance. The CID operates through its special branch (SB) and counter-intelligence (CI) units across Jammu and Kashmir, led by an officer of the rank of Additional Director General.
