New Delhi, June 20: The Jammu and Kashmir government has initiated significant disciplinary action against a cardiologist stationed at a government medical college. The doctor faces allegations of committing fraud under the PMJAY-Sehat scheme, including manipulating medical records, procedural irregularities, and exploiting patients.
According to official documents, the doctor has been charged under the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service Rules. It is alleged that the physician provided false information regarding cardiac procedures, such as treatments related to pacemakers, to obtain insurance claims. Furthermore, the doctor reportedly ignored procurement regulations and conducted procedures lacking established medical justification.
The investigation also revealed that beneficiaries entitled to cashless treatment were financially exploited, and there were irregular purchases of medical implants from private vendors. Based on audit results, patient records, and anti-fraud investigations, the department has requested a written response from the doctor. A warning has been issued that if the allegations are substantiated, severe actions, including termination, could follow.
On June 19, following the withdrawal of private hospitals from the ‘Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY Sehat’ scheme, the Jammu and Kashmir government announced a ₹175 crore package to restart the program. Additionally, assurances were given for the prompt payment of outstanding bills to various hospitals.
Officials stated that this decision was made after the government approved the release of ₹175 crore to settle long-pending reimbursement claims. The Health and Medical Education Department has sanctioned this amount to clear dues owed to private healthcare institutions included in the panel.
