Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah Visits Father After Attack on Farooq Abdullah

Srinagar, March 12: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited his father, Farooq Abdullah, following a life-threatening attack on the National Conference president. The incident occurred late Wednesday night during a wedding ceremony. Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also expressed her concern over the attack, stating she was relieved to hear that he is safe.

On Thursday morning, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah arrived at his father’s residence. Security measures had already been intensified at Farooq Abdullah’s home after the shooting incident.

Meanwhile, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti took to the social media platform ‘X’ to post, “I am shocked to hear about the serious attack on Farooq Abdullah. I am relieved to know that he is safe and well. I hope the police will thoroughly investigate this security lapse.”

Earlier, Congress leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir stated that this serious security breach is unacceptable. He wrote on ‘X’, “I was deeply shocked to hear about the life-threatening attack on Farooq Abdullah at the wedding ceremony. This serious security lapse is unacceptable. Thankfully, he is safe. A complete and transparent investigation should be conducted to hold those responsible accountable and prevent such incidents in the future.”

PDP leader Waheed Ur Rehman Para expressed his sorrow over the attack, stating, “I am very saddened to hear about this reprehensible attack on Farooq Abdullah. Violence against such an experienced leader is absolutely unacceptable and must be condemned. I pray for his safety and longevity.”

Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the incident, saying, “The news of the life-threatening attack on Farooq Abdullah in Jammu is concerning and condemnable. I am relieved to know that he narrowly escaped. A full investigation should be conducted into how someone with a loaded weapon got so close to him and fired.”

It is noteworthy that Farooq Abdullah had attended a wedding ceremony in Jammu on Wednesday, accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir’s Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary. During the event, an individual breached the security perimeter and fired shots at close range. Fortunately, no leaders were injured in the attack, and the assailant was later apprehended.
